This etching of Marie Antoinette (1755-1793), the last queen of France, can be found in the Royal Autographs Case in the Long Gallery. Isabella Stewart Gardner’s interest in tragic historical heroines likely led her to collect memorabilia related to Marie Antoinette, including several portraits, and an autographed receipt that is also displayed in this case.
