ProvenanceNotesPossibly purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner from the dealer Antonio Carrer (d. 1912), Venice for 500 lire on 17 October 1892. Alternatively, it may have been purchased from the collector Emile Peyre (1828-1904), Paris for 1,710 francs on 15 November 1899, through Fernand Robert, her regular agent in Paris. This is very likely the crucifix that was hung near the Spanish Chapel for Isabella Gardner's wake in 1924.
