In this photograph, Isabella Stewart Gardner sits with friends on the terrace of Red Roof, a home in Gloucester, Massachusetts belonging to A. Piatt Andrew (1873–1936), an economist and future congressman. Andrew and his neighbors made up a lively and creative community, and they embraced Isabella (as well as her friends such as art historian and curator, Okakura Kakuzo, pictured in the front row) as an honorary member.
