ProvenanceNotesAcquired by Isabella Stewart Gardner from an unknown dealer in England for about £31 probably in 1892-1893, through the English architect Harold A. Peto (1854-1933).
Installed in the Italian sculpture garden at Green Hill, Isabella Stewart Gardner's residence in Brookline, Massachusetts by about 1900.
Isabella Gardner gave this portion of the Green Hill estate to her nephew, Harold Jefferson Coolidge, Jr. (1904-1985) on 19 February 1919, in anticipation of her will.
Presented to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum by Harold Jefferson Coolidge, Jr. in April 1938.
