Web CommentaryIsabella Stewart Gardner kept thorough records of her travels in the form of travel albums. This album features her journeys through Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Russia, Poland, the United States, Mexico, and Cuba between 1867 and 1886. The album chronicles the two-month trip Gardner and her husband, Jack, took across the Western United States through California, returning via New Mexico. The Gardners mapped their route, so we know that they wound their way via train from Chicago, through Salt Lake City, and to San Francisco. The Gardners also visited several natural wonders; they toured Yosemite, Monterey, and crossed the Rio Grande into Mexico on their way back to Boston. This object contains violent and harmful content.
