Not on viewWeb CommentaryThis game with six cards holds numerous symbols to be puzzled over in the manner of the wizard-like “Detector,” who is surrounded by Masonic symbols on the game’s cover. Isabella Stewart Gardner saved a number of books and other items from her childhood as well as those of her three nephews. The well-worn appearance of the cards suggests heavy usage, perhaps by her three imaginative boys, or perhaps by Gardner herself—a spirited competitor who enjoyed challenging games as a youth and as an adult.
ProvenanceNotesEntered Isabella Stewart Gardner's collection at an unknown date.
