"Mond had a great interest in art and in 1884 appointed the art historian JEAN PAUL RICHTER to buy paintings for him, of a quality suitable for a public gallery and from all schools of Italian art, although the result was a collection especially strong in early Italian art. The collection included works by Giovanni Bellini, Sandro Botticelli, Vincenzo Catena, Correggio, Carlo Crivelli, Dosso Dossi, Fra Bartolommeo, Francesco Guardi, Leonardo da Vinci, Alessandro Longhi, Mantegna, Raphael and Titian, as well as Lucas Cranach (i) and Rubens.
