News, Seattle Press-Times, Seattle Post Intelligencer, San Francisco Call; pres. Bd. of Park Commrs., Seattle, 1914-16. Declined appmt. as gov. of Idaho under Pres. Arthur; served as state land commr. of Wash. under Gov. McGraw, 1893-97; representative of Wash. at Conf. of Governors, in Washington, D.C., 1908; rep. of Wash. at National Convention American Academy Political and Social Science, at Philadelphia, 1912. Has served as mem. exec. com. Nat. Municipal League and advisory com. Am. Civic Assn.; mem. Nat. Conf. Charities and Correction, 1909; etc. Consul for Paraguay, 1919—. Republican. Episcopalian.
