Giovanni Battista Meduna

Giovanni Battista Meduna ( Venice , 1800 - Venice , April 27, 1886 ) was an Italian architect .

His work was particularly focused on reconstruction and restoration. In Venice he rebuilt the Gran Teatro La Fenice , destroyed by the fire of 1836 and participated in the restoration of other buildings such as the Ca 'd'Oro , the basilica of San Marco and the church of San Silvestro . [1]

In the hinterland he was involved in the reconstruction of numerous places of worship, such as the Cathedral of San Donà [2] (destroyed in the First World War ), the parish churches of Fossalta di Piave , Santa Lucia di Piave and Carpenedo . He also dealt with the rearrangement of the facade of the archpriest of Noale , the raising of the bell tower also of the archpriest of Noale and the restorations of the church of San Nicolò in Treviso , as well as the design of the " Dante Alighieri " theaters in Ravenna and " Antonio Bajamonti "bySplit .

He built Palazzo Balbi Valier Sammartini in Pieve di Soligo for the wealthy Balbi Valier family . [3]

He often collaborated with his brother Tommaso , engineer and designer of the first railway bridge between Venice and the mainland. [1]
