Lillian Freeman Clarke1842 - 1921
Active in Boston in the late 19th Century, Lillian Freeman Clarke was a student of William Morris Hunt (1824-1879), proponent of the Barbizon School of painting and the importance of capturing the light of one moment in a single painting.
Clarke took classes from Hunt both in Boston and in 1877 at Magnolia at Cape Ann. She remained part of the colony of women artists, led by Helen Knowlton, who remained together as a regular-visiting group there until 1881.
From 1874 to 1876, and 1881 to 1882, Clarke studied in Paris.
