Son of William and brother of Waldo Story, Julian Russell Story was a student of Duveneck, Boulanger and Lefebvre in Paris. He appeared at exhibitions in Paris, receiving an award in 1887, a bronze medal in 1889 (Exposition Universelle) and bronze medal in 1900 (Exposition Universelle). He was made a Chevalier of the French Légion d'Honneur in 1901.
