Mary Stedman Williams was born in Buffalo, New York in 1875. She received training at St. Margaret's School in Buffalo, Boi de Fey School in Switzerland, and finished her schooling in England and France. In 1902 she married Frederick Bradlee Winslow (1873-1937), a prominent Boston physician. Winslow was known for her expertise in classical Greek. Mildred Bliss consulted with Winslow in 1933 about the Greek inscription for the Green Garden tablet.
