F. A. Ackermann (F. A. Ackermanns Kunstverlag) is one of the oldest publishing houses in Germany. In 1864, Friedrich Adolf Ackermann (1837–1903) joined the publishing company E. A. Fleischmann'sche Hof- Buch- und Kunsthandlung at Maximilianstraße 2 in Munich. In 1872, he took over the firm, which he renamed Friedrich Adolf Ackermanns Kunstverlag (F. A. Ackermanns Kunstverlag). The company concentrated on the publishing of high-quality reproductions of historic and contemporary art, which were sold in collections. With the advent of the view postcard at the end of the nineteenth century, the company entered the postcard market.
