BiographyOnly son of Charles, Count of Angouleme and Louise of Savoy, his father being a first cousin of King Louis XII of France and a great-grandson of Charles V of France. He became Count of Angouleme and also heir presumptive to the throne of France at age 2. Patron of great Renaissance painters and sculptors.
