A framemaker whose consummate craftsmanship and elegant designs were admired by Stieglitz, O’Keeffe, and many of the artists associated with them, Of was also a painter. His work was included in the 1916 “Forum Exhibition of Modern American Paintings” at the Anderson Galleries. Of also owned Matisse’s Nude in a Wood, 1906 (Brooklyn Museum of Art), which Sarah Stein purchased, at Of’s request, directly from the artist. He lent the painting to Stieglitz who exhibited it in 1908 at 291. Of made frames for Stieglitz, O’Keeffe, and others associated with his galleries well into the 1940s.
