A seaside resort and port located on the North Sea coast. The city grew along narrow streets called "rows." It was an important counting house and trade center during the 14th and 15th centuries. Industries include herring fishing, engineering, food processing, and brewing. It was heavily bombed during World War I. St. Nicholas' is the largest parish church in England.
