Orūmīyeh
Orūmīyeh lies in the far northwestern region of Irān near the fertile area west of Daryacheh-ye Orumiyeh (Lake Urmia), and located on a large plain that produces grains, fruit, tobacco and other crops. Its population is made up of Azeri Turks, Kurds, Assyrian Christians, and Armenian minorities. Ancient settlements are scattered throughout the area and among them are the traces of the ancient kingdom of Urartu, part of the Ottoman Empire.
