Oberammergau
The town of Oberammergau, located south-southwest of Munich in Bavaria in southern Germany is a summer and winter resort area. It is famous for the passion play presented by the townspeople each decade from May through September since 1634 in fulfillment of a vow made in thanksgiving for the deliverance of the town from a plague. Relying largely upon tourism to support its economy, the town also produces wood carvings, many depicting the passion of Christ and related subjects.
