Padova
Formerly located near a mouth of the Po river, which was called "Padus" in Latin, and from which the name of the city is derived. Settlement on the site dates to at least the 10th century BCE. According to legend, it was founded by the Trojan hero Antenor; was birthplace of Roman historian Livy (59 BCE); was a leading commune 11th-13th cen.; was ruled by Venice 1405-1797; was under Austrian rule 1815-1866. The city was active in the Risorgimento. It is noted for many famous architectural sites.
