Not on viewWeb CommentaryIsabella Stewart Gardner's favorite summer destination was Eastern Point in Gloucester, Massachusetts She was first invited there in 1907 by her friend and future congressman A. Piatt Andrew (1873–1936) who built the home depicted in this photograph, named Red Roof. His neighbors--with Isabella as an honorary member--formed a lively community of creative and charismatic personalities. Isabella spent many days on Eastern Point picnicking on the beach, birdwatching, and attending parties. She kept mementos--like this photograph--of her happy times spent on the North Shore in her collection.
