Arnold Genthe
Berlin, 1869 - 1942, New Milford, Connecticut
Genthe emigrated to San Francisco in 1895, and from 1897 to 1906 operated a studio in the Chinese district of the city. From 1902 to 1911, he ran another studio in Carmel. Genthe photographed the 1906 earthquake and fire in San Francisco. He later operated a portrait studio in New York City from 1911 to 1942. Genthe became an American citizen in 1918. In 1925, Genthe photographed the architecture of New Orleans, Louisiana. He also worked as a freelance magazine photographer and was associated with the California Camera Club. American photographer.
