BiographyEugénie-Désirée Fournier, mother of the painter Édouard Manet, was born in Paris on February 11, 1811, 7 rue des Saints-Pères, division of Unity. She was the daughter of Joseph Antoine Ennemond Fournier, former vice-consul in Sweden, and Adèle Delanoue. Her father died in Brétigny-sur-Orge on October 24, 1824.

She married Auguste Manet, lawyer, in Paris (former 10th arrondissement) on January 18, 1831, and had three sons, Edouard, Eugène and Gustave.

Eugénie-Désirée Fournier died on January 8, 1885, at her home, 40 rue Villejust in Paris (16th arrondissement), aged 73.
