Venetian humanist, poet, historian, and diplomat. He succeeded Marcantonio Sabellico as historian of the Venetian Republic and was involved in important diplomatic missions. His classical learning led him to editorial collaboration with Aldo Manuzio. He wrote Latin poetry in the style of Catullus, official orations for the Venetian senate, and vernacular poems in the Petrarchist mode. [Paolo Rossi - Oxford Reference]
