BiographyAbbott was a leading member of the Copley Society of Boston (known as the Boston Art Students Association from 1876-1901). He was also a member of the Tavern Club, a dining club for wealthy Bostonians founded in 1884. He was portrayed by Sargent in 1920; the portrait is still owned by the Tavern Club.

His publications include: (with Francis Shaw Sturgis) To Owen Wister. A ""Hellion"" verse, 15 January, 1904, Boston, 1904; Bear with us; a collection of Tavern club verses ... Anno T.C. XXI, Boston, 1905; The silver wedding of the Bear; a memorial of the celebration of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Tavern Club, 15 January 1909, Boston, 1910; Alice in Wonderland: in eleven scenes, arranged for the Copley Society of Boston, Boston, 1912.
