Thorsten Laurin

Thorsten Olof Laurin , born April 3, 1875 , Stockholm , died January 21, 1954 , was a Swedish book publisher and outstanding art collector , heir to PA Norstedt & Söner .

Thorsten Laurin was the son of Gösta Laurin and brother of Carl G. Laurin . He married 1901 with Elizabeth Emery (1876-1916) and 1921 with Kerstin Anna Elisabeth Husberg (born 1891).
Laurin graduated from matriculation in 1893 in Stockholm and then studied law at Uppsala University , where he became a lawyer in 1900. From 1904 he was employed by Norstedts publishing house, became 1910 deputy director and from 1924 director.
Already in the twentieth century Laurin started collecting art and art literature. His collection comprised 500 paintings and sculptures, 300 handwritten notes and thousands of graphic magazines. He donated 1200 graphic sheets to the National Museum . In 1945 he also donated to the National Museum a collection of press releases covering the years 1900-1945.
Laurin let 1907 build the Laurinska villa , also known as Villa Ekarne, at Djurgården in Stockholm , designed by Ragnar Östberg .
Together with the brother, Laurin in 1897 took the initiative of the Association for the School's adornment with art. In 1903, the name changed to the school's art . He took the initiative in 1911 to the Association of Nationalmusei friends and was a secretary of the board.
Laurin was from 1914 chairman of the Association for Graphic Art , established from 1920 on the board of Liljevalch's art gallery , from 1943 on the board of the Zorn collectors . He became the Honorary Member of the Academy for the Free Arts in 1927, awarded the 1936 medal, Illis Quorum of the 12th.
