BiographySUDDEN DEATH OF MRS. SARAH YERXA MOWER
The death of Mrs. Sarah Yerxa Mower, wife of 'Martin Mower, of 37 Lancaster street, on Tuesday, was sudden and unexpected although since January, mill, she had been more or less constantly under the care of a physician. The cause of her death waa polycythema vera, a disease of the blood. Who was born in this city September 0, 1870, and her age was therefore M) years, six months and nine days. Her father was the late Henry D, Yerxa, long identified with Cambridge affairs and at one time a member of the governor's council. He was for iiisny years a member of the grocery house of Cobb, Bates and Yerxa. Her mother was Sarah E. Emery, of Fltchburg. The marriage of Miss Yerxa to Mr. Mower took place on Nov. 11th and she and her husband had continued to occupy the Yerxa residence since then. Mr. Mower has for a long time been connected with the fine arts department of. Harvard university. Mrs. Mower attended a private school and later Radcliffe, from which college she was graduated. In her student daya she was active in various philanthropic and educational work and since her graduation from Itadcliffe she had been a member of the board of associates of the college. Mrs. Mower was a member of the Women's City club, in Boston, and also of the College club, which she had served as president. She had been interested in the work carried on at Denison house, as she was in that of the Cambridge Visiting Nursing association, of which she had oeen secretary. She was an attendant at the First Parish Unitarian church. Surviving Mrs. Mower are. her husband and a young step-daughter, and she leaves also a brother, Herbert E. Yerxa, of Marlboro street, Boston, and two sisters, Mrs. William E. Youngman snd Mrs. Theodore Barnard, both of Brookline. Mrs. Barnard is in Los Angeles, Cal., where she has been spending the winter. Private funeral services were conducted Thursday by Hey. Dr. Crothers and burial was in Cambridge cemetery.
