BiographyGraphic arts company; in 1905, Société genevoise d'édition, founded by George W. Brooke, adopted the name Atar (ATeliers ARtistiques)

Soc. Anonymous of graphic arts, founded in 1896 with the company name of Société Genevoise d'Edition (SGE) by George W. Brooke, initiator of the periodical La Patrie Suisse. Born from the merger of seven companies, the company developed rapidly and in 1905 adopted the company name Atar (ATeliers ARtistiques). At the beginning the company, which dealt with the edition and printing of art books and illustrated posters, also owned a bookshop. In 1926 he sold the publishing house to Payot SA and the bookshop to Naville SA and since then he has devoted himself exclusively to the printing of administrative brochures and high-circulation books; between 1956 and 1993 it switched to the manufacture of continuous forms, but in 1971 it again turned towards quality production, acquiring a photocomposition laboratory and four-color offset machines.

Patrie suisse, La
Illustrated magazine, the first issue of which was published in Geneva on October 4th, 1893. It appeared twice a month until 1927, then weekly. The magazine was published by Atar , among othersprinted and by the American George W. Brooke (1861-1939)
