Prantl

established München, Germany, 1797
BiographyPrantl Manufactory and Printing House, tradition since 1797
Over 210 years of excellence in steel engraving, fine printing and leather accessories

In 1797, the foundation stone for the Prantl family business was laid in what was then the "electoral capital and residence city" of Munich. It can be assumed that the founder of the company, Franz Anton, came from Austria, especially since the name Prantl is still widespread in Austria today and many immigrants and craftsmen from the neighboring country immigrated to southern Germany in the 18th century. The numerous residences of the secular and spiritual rulers offered a good platform for high-quality handicrafts.

At that time, the Prantl company sold not only fine prints, paper and leather goods, but also so-called "gallantry goods" such as coffee, tea, but also silk, gold and silver goods. Luxury goods and luxury goods were often sold together until the 19th century.

From 1822 to 1945, the shop was located in the elegant Hofgarten arcades, right next to the Residenz. During this time, the Prantl company developed into one of the top addresses for fine prints and especially steel engraving in all of Germany. In addition to the Bavarian royal family, to whom the company is still permitted to supply, the company's customer base also included customers such as Maria Callas, Kandinsky, Richard Strauss, Thomas and Heinrich Mann. From the time he arrived in "shining Munich", Thomas Mann wrote his notes and works on original Prantl paper.

The destruction of the Hofgarten buildings also sealed the Prantl company's location. They moved to Perusastrasse. In December 2006 we opened our shop in the traditional Luitpoldblock on Amiraplatz (corner of Brienner Strasse 11). Here the company has almost returned to its original roots - just a stone's throw from Odeonsplatz. Our factory, printing shop and administration are now located at Balanstrasse 73 in Munich.
