Biography:
Night editor St. Louis Globe, 1873. Afterward staff correspondent in legislature and constitutional convention for Globe-Democrat. Became associate editor of Chicago Daily News a few months after founding of that paper and remained with it 7 years.
Later was managing editor Chicago Mail and the Chicago Times. Editorial writer on Chicago Inter Ocean, 1898-1908. Editorial writer Christian Science Monitor from its founding, 1908-1919.
Compiled The Standard Guide to Chicago. Appointed United States consul to Chemnitz, Saxony, 1882, and during 2 years abroad contributed series of humorous letters to Chicago Morning News. First reader, First Church of Christ, Scientist, Winchester, Massachusetts (1911-1914).
