Yoshisaburo Okakura was born in Yokohama, he was the younger brother of Kakuzo (Tenshin).
Education
Yoshisaburo Okakura studied English at Tokyo University.
Career
Yoshisaburo Okakura was appointed professor at the Seventh Higher School (1894). He was professor at the Tokyo Higher Normal School for 25 years from 1896. In the interval, he visited Britain and the United States. Doyen of teachers of English in Japan, he was famous as radio teacher of the language after resigning from the Tokyo Higher Normal School.
He compiled a large English-Japanese dictionary and became professor at St. Paul's (Rikkyo) University in Tokyo. His books include "The Japanese Spirit" and "The Life and Thoughts of Japan."
