George Gardner Monks

American , 1898 - 1978
BiographyBorn in Boston in 1898, George was the first child born to Olga Eliza (Gardner) and Dr. George Howard Monks. He attended St. Marks School, and Harvard and served in WWI. He was ordained as an Episcopal minister in 1925, and was founder of the Lenox School, where he served as headmaster from 1927-1946. From 1947-1957 he was the canon of Washington Cathedral. From 1957-1964 he served as canon of St. Paul's cathedral in Boston.

He was married to Katharine Knowles Monks, and they had four children- three sons and one daughter.
