Luigi Monti

Palermo, 1830 - 1914
BiographyLuigi Monti, instructor of Italian at Harvard University and United States Consul to Italy; Monti came to the US as a refugee during the Italian revolution of 1848-1849, and worked as an instructor of Italian at Harvard from 1854-1859. With some help from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, he secured an appointment as the U.S. consul in Olermo, where he served from 1861 until 1873.
